The most well known is Napa Valley. This region alone has over 450 different producers to choose from, so it can be challenging to select which ones to visit.
They are located along both Hwy 29 and Silverado Trail in Napa County. I love visiting this region and there are several great places to see.
The Northern California wineries in this region are known for their beautiful landscapes and yummy red wines. I have pulled together a list of my favorites in Napa wineries and my favorite reds produced in this region to make it a little easier to get you started with this popular region. There are also several Northern California wineries and regions in Sonoma County. The four largest and most popular regions are Alexander Valley, Dry Creek Valley, Russian River Valley and Sonoma Valley.
Alexander Valley: This is the smallest of the four regions and has around 40 different wineries. Wine lovers around the world visit this region for its Cabernet Sauvignon. Learn more about some of my favorites in Alexander Valley.
Dry Creek Valley: This is one of my favorite regions of Northern California wineries. This region is well known for its ability to grow and produce amazing Zinfandel. Find some of my favorite of the 81 Dry Creek Valley producers.
Russian River Valley: The 130 wineries in this region are spread out quite a bit more than any of the other regions mentioned here. This one is known for their tasty Pinot Noir. The location of this one is a little closer to the ocean which makes it cooler and a great place to grow Pinot Noir. Find great Russian River Winery recommendations.
Sonoma Valley: When people talk about Sonoma, they are typically referring to this area in Sonoma County. It borders Napa County and is easy to get to from the southern end of Napa Valley. There are 40 different producers in this region and I have a few recommendations that I think you'll enjoy.
These are the regions with the most well known and most visited Northern California Wineries. This is an amazing area to visit if you love red wines and I'd highly recommend spending some time in these areas if you have the opportunity.
Due to the number of producers, I'd recommend staying a few days. This will give you plenty of time to visit all of the ones that interest you.
