The most well known Northern California wine region is Napa Valley. This wine region alone has over 300 different wineries to choose from, so it can be challenging to select which ones to visit on your Northern California vacation.
The Napa Valley wineries are located along both Hwy 29 and Silverado Trail in Napa County. I love visiting this wine region and there are several great wineries to see.
The Northern California wineries in this wine region are known for their beautiful landscapes and yummy red wines. I have pulled together a list of my favorite wineries in Napa Valley and my favorite Napa Valley red wines to make it a little easier to get you started with this popular wine region. There are also several Northern California Wineries and wine regions in Sonoma County. The four largest and most popular regions are Alexander Valley, Dry Creek Valley, Russian River Valley and Sonoma Valley.

Russian River Valley: The 130 wineries in this wine region are spread out quite a bit more than any of the other wine regions mentioned here. This wine region is known for their tasty Pinot Noir wine. The location of this wine region is a little closer to the ocean which makes it cooler and a great place to grow Pinot Noir. Sonoma Valley: When people talk about Sonoma Wineries, they are typically referring to this wine region in Sonoma County. This region borders Napa County and is easy to get to from the southern end of Napa Valley. There are 40 different wineries in this region and I have a few recommendations for Sonoma Valley wineries that I think you'll enjoy.
These are the wine regions with the most well known and most visited Northern California Wineries. This is an amazing area to visit if you love red wines and I'd highly recommend spending some time in these wine regions if you have the opportunity.
Due to the number of wineries in Northern California, I'd recommend staying a few days. This will give you plenty of time to visit all of the wineries that interest you on your Northern California Vacation.
